The Value of Friendship

clownHow many people are you trying to change?

What if our love, our sincere friendship, without manipulations, could help to heal? Loving someone for who they are—right now, in this moment—may be one of the most precious gifts we can give to another human being. We are all flawed. We all struggle to meet our potential, to use our gifts, to become better people. We may be struggling with health issues, financial setbacks, low self-esteem, with addictions or challenging personalities—and we wonder, who will love us for ourselves? Who will love us without the condition to change certain things in order to better suit their idea of who we should be (typically so that we will better serve their own needs)?

Can we want certain things for our friends and family—can we encourage them and lead by example—yet love them regardless of whether they achieve our intentions for them? Perhaps there are great gifts to be had—not in what others change for our benefit but in what remains uniquely their own character.
